The Bureau of Customs (BOC) Port of Limay seized more than 2,000 metric tons of rice worth P100 million in a vessel anchored at Orion Dockyard in Barangay Elena, Orion, Bataan on December 25.
BOC Port of Limay District Collector Atty. William Balayo said his men arrested 18 smugglers on Christmas Day when they tried to unload the smuggled rice from Cebu.
The ship crew and the owner of the smuggled rice will be charged with large scale agriculture smuggling and violations of Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
Documents showed the ship declared transporting only 1,700 metric tons of agricultural products.
